Udyam Registration 2026: How to Register Your MSME Online, Step by Step
What is Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration identifies your business as a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise (MSME) under the Ministry of MSME. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) system. If you have an old UAM or EM-II registration, you must register again on Udyam.
A Udyam certificate helps you access many MSME benefits, from priority bank lending to protection against delayed payments.
MSME classification limits (from 1 April 2025)
The classification uses both investment in plant, machinery or equipment and annual turnover. An enterprise must meet both conditions for its category.
| Category | Investment up to | Turnover up to |
| Micro | ₹2.5 crore | ₹10 crore |
| Small | ₹25 crore | ₹100 crore |
| Medium | ₹125 crore | ₹500 crore |
These limits apply from 1 April 2025. Earlier, the limits were lower (for example, micro was up to ₹1 crore investment and ₹5 crore turnover). Exports are excluded when calculating turnover.
Who can register?
Any manufacturing or service enterprise can register: proprietorships, HUFs, partnership firms, LLPs, companies, cooperatives, societies and trusts. Traders (retail and wholesale) can also register for priority sector lending purposes.
Documents and details you need
Nothing is uploaded, but you need the following ready:
- Aadhaar number of the proprietor (proprietorship), managing partner (partnership) or karta (HUF). The mobile number linked to Aadhaar must be active for the OTP.
- PAN of the business or proprietor
- GSTIN, if your business is required to have GST registration
- Bank account number and IFSC
- Business address and date of starting
- Main activity (manufacturing or service) and NIC code
- Number of employees
- Investment and turnover details (largely pulled automatically from PAN and GST data)
For companies, LLPs, cooperatives, societies and trusts, the organisation needs its PAN and GSTIN, plus the authorised signatory’s Aadhaar.
Step-by-step: how to register on the Udyam portal
- Go to udyamregistration.gov.in (the only official portal).
- Click “For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME”.
- Enter the Aadhaar number and the name as on Aadhaar, then validate with the OTP.
- Select your type of organisation and enter the PAN. The portal validates it.
- Fill in the business details: name, address, bank details, activity, NIC code, employees, investment and turnover.
- Choose any optional registrations (for example, GeM or TReDS interest).
- Submit the form and verify with the final OTP.
- You’ll receive your Udyam Registration Number. The e-certificate is sent to your registered email and can be printed from the portal.
Time required: usually 15–30 minutes if your details are ready.
Don’t have PAN or GST? Use the Udyam Assist Platform
Informal micro enterprises (for example, many street vendors and small artisans) that don’t have PAN or GST can be registered through the Udyam Assist Platform, using designated agencies. The certificate is treated as Udyam for priority sector lending.
Warning: registration is free
The Udyam portal clearly states that registration is free and that no fee is payable. Many private websites look official and charge ₹1,000–₹5,000. Use only udyamregistration.gov.in or a genuine government single-window system.
Benefits of Udyam Registration
- Priority sector lending: banks treat MSME loans as priority sector lending
- Collateral-free loans through the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE)

- Government tenders: relief such as exemption from earnest money deposit in many public procurements, and a share of purchases reserved for micro and small enterprises
- Access to schemes: many central and state subsidies require Udyam registration. See our list of state government business subsidies.
- Lower costs: concessions such as reduced fees for some patent and trademark filings, and access to various state electricity or tax concessions, depending on the state
How to update or print your Udyam certificate
Log in on the portal with your Udyam number and the OTP to update details (for example, a new address or activity). You can also print the certificate anytime. Investment and turnover data update automatically from the income tax and GST systems, so your category can change as your business grows.
